When you have a child you start out having an Idea of the sizes your child needs, because what could be simpler than finding sections named Newborn Sizes? The last size for this category is 24 M. I remember when I had to buy beyond newborn I was like and now what? What are the sizes I have to buy now? Add to this the shoes that also have sizes for different stages, but we will leave that topic for another time.
Now we move to toddler territory, sizes 2 T – 4 T, ok not that hard, but when you haven’t had the need to buy children’s clothes before and the stores you used to buy from only had sizes up to 24M which is why I had no idea what was next, but alas we have the T sizes.
Next, we move to the children sizes which are size 4 or S through size 6 or L then you see 6 X, what the heck is that? Why are there no 4 X or 5 X? Well the explanation is that size 6 X is an in-between size, it is bigger than size 6 and smaller than size 7. Confused? I still am, I mean if my child is currently size 6, I’ll just buy a size 7 son she won’t grow out of it too fast.
The category that my daughter is currently growing out of are sizes 7 – 16, the simplest of all. For boys it goes up to size 20. My daughter has never worn clothes based on the size that is assigned per age, she has always been taller or bigger than the size that are suggested. Suffice to say that my 11-year-old uses size 7 shoes, for women, luckily with all of the ballerina / flat shoes in the market I always find a few that are age appropriate (and sometimes buy one for myself while I’m at it).
Currently, my daughter is between size 14 and 16 (depending on the brand), so now I have to buy her clothes beyond those sizes, so when she grows out of it, she will have clothes already available for her to use. I don’t like waiting for her to grow out of clothes, to avoid having to go out on a rush to buy things. I am an extreme planner. Usually, when you find out that clothing doesn’t fit them, is when you are going out to an event or something and then you have to go out looking for clothes that either you don’t like, the child hates it or is too expensive. I like to take my time to shop, for what we both like and does not hurt my pockets.
So, what sizes follow size 16? Well while I was writing this topic for the blog I started searching to see where I had to go from here, and I don’t like what I’m seeing, the Junior’s section. I found that some women buy their daughters clothes from the misses and petite sections for more modest and age appropriate options. I fell like buying clothes from now on will be worst than before until she is more grown.
During my search I found that Lands’s End and Justice has clothes that go all the way through 20, which simplifies things a bit. There are probably more stores that offer sizes beyond size 16 and eventually I’ll find it. Until then, “may the odds be in our favor” LOL!
